ナイキのランニングシューズ「ペガサス」は、同ブランドの膨大なバックカタログの中でも最も象徴的なアスレチックシューズのひとつだ。2021年のペガサス38もその例に漏れず、高品質な作りで、ファンが期待するサポート力を提供する。
ナイキペガサス38のアッパーは、柔らかく通気性の良いメッシュ素材でできており、その柔軟性により、時間が経つにつれて足に馴染み、ぴったりとフィットする。中足部にはウェビングを施し、前足部にはゆとりを持たせている。極太のシューレースループは足をしっかりと固定するのに役立ち、ベロにはシューレースの圧力を軽減するパッドが追加されている。また、ベロの長さを長くし、インナーとつなげることで、足の甲の快適性を向上させ、長時間のランニングでもベロがずり落ちるのを防いでいる。
足元のミッドソールには、前作より2mm多いReactフォームを使用し、クッション性と反応性を高めている。前足部にはエネルギーが戻るZoom Airユニットが搭載され、つま先から次の一歩を踏み出すときにバネのような感覚を与える。ヒールでは、ソールの形状を従来よりも少し深くすることで、かかとの滑りをなくし、ナイキ ペガサス 38の安定性を確実なものにしている。一方、アウトソールには自然な動きを可能にするフレックスグルーブが施され、耐久性の高いラバーで形成された強化トレッドデザインが、何マイルにもわたって上質なトラクションを発揮する。
ペガサス38は、内側ヒールに小さなスウッシュ、外側側面に大きなアウトラインのスウッシュをあしらい、上品かつミニマルに仕上げている。アイステイにはジグザグのステッチが入り、ベロの中央には細いパッチが伸びている。2021年の発売以来、数々の印象的なカラーリングが登場し、ロンドンを拠点に活動するビジュアルアーティスト、ジョイ・ヤムサンギーやブルックリンを拠点に活動するイラストレーター、ジョーダン・モスとのコラボレーションも実現した。
